June 20th Letter

Hey, he is here – SWEET NEWS!!! I guess I will never forget where I was when he was born. Does that mean he has the same birthday as his dad, Weird, and another birthday on the 19th, This couldn't get any more complicated.

Hey dad, happy Father’s Day.

I figure because of all the good news that my email this week doesn't have to be very long; after all, everyone will be busy with Greyson and what not. Thank heavens!!!

This week went by so fast. We had one of our investigators get interviewed for baptism, she passed but was committed to tell her family that she was getting baptized. When she did that her family got pretty frustrated and she chickened out and went home on Sunday, so it didn't happen. Our other guy that was going to be baptized has decided that he needs to wait he thinks he isn’t prepared; however, I thing he just doesn’t' want to be baptized. Anyway, that means this week no baptisms. This means this will be my first area that I didn't have any baptisms. This morning President Smith called me and asked me to be a Zone Leader and I will be moving on Thursday to a new area. I'm not sure where yet but it should be an interesting adventure. I'm not sure what he is thinking. I've only been a district leader for one moves and I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing.

This week my companion got sick. The day we were supposed to do switch offs, I woke up to him throwing up in the toilet. Way sad, anyway a little way through the day he started to feel better so we ended up still doing the switching offs. As soon as we traveled to the other area he was throwing up again. He just took the next couple of days easy and is feeling better now; however, I don't think he is going to be down for the unhatched chicken or the cow fetus this week, too bad.

I had a couple of interesting experiences while doing interviews for baptism. One person was a 73 year old women who pretty much has been prepared for baptism since day one. She is so humble and just wants the Spirit in her life. It was such an uplifting interview. This was short lived as my second interview told me that he was sleeping with two transvestites. That was a weird interview, I just felt weird the whole time. That makes for a total of 3 interviews that I’ve done. I should be doing another one on Wednesday. I'll let you know how that one goes.

Anyway the movies this week are Pirates of the Caribbean and High School Musical, but I have no idea what the theme is. I am going to have to let you tell me, I’m pulling a blank.

I love you guys. Have a great week! Happy Father’s Day and Birthday – to all three of you.

June 13th Letter

OK, just because I know you will be surprised I'm going to start out with the movies again. Star Trek and Down Periscope, and the theme is the whale sounds. Yes, I am that good!

Well family, it sounds like all is going well. I'm sad to hear that there isn't another baby yet, but maybe next week no?

It sounds like your week was just about as uneventful as mine. Nothing really exciting happened this week, only Stake Conference, which was actually pretty cool. It was bigger than the last because this time they mixed both the Stake and a District that is by the Stake. There was a General Authority there; it was Elder Pratt of the Seventy. He gave a really great talk about supporting your priesthood leaders. At this Conference they decided to change some stuff up with the Stake they ended up splitting some of it and sticking it back into a District. They are preparing to make another Stake in Thailand (probably in many years), but there has only been one in Thailand for like 20 years. I was really exciting to go to Stake Conference because I got to see all of the people from Samut Prakaan, and that was really nice. I saw Pawn and some other people, it was really nice - and I got to see Brother Ice Nong Khai. He is learning English really well, I think he is such a stud.

This week was pretty good, and if this next week goes as planned I should be having another two people baptized on Sunday. They haven't been interviewed yet, they will get interviewed on Wednesday, but I feel like I have prepared them pretty well so I assume they will be getting baptized on Sunday. One is a guy named Pae, but his name is really "bay" That is how you pronounce it in English. The other is Rung, I think, I can't spell it in English.

This next week is going to be exciting, we have some special trainings and I think I will need to switch off with elder Shipley’s companion this week (yes, Elder Shipley is in my district) and his companion is also a trainee, his name is elder KhamPhang (Thai).

As for your questions, I learn a lot about my companion every day. His father is Physical Therapist and works for the state (Texas) helping out disabled people, and last Christmas Elder Osborne got tools as a present. How are those two facts?

Well I haven't spent all the money yet, but I did buy a watch (Automatic Breitling watch, no need for batteries) for only 20 dollars. The other money hasn't been spent yet.

No he hasn't had any way bazaar food yet. It is difficult to find, but I'm trying.

Anyway thank you for getting me a little bit on the twelve tribes. If you could find more that would be great. The more I learn the more questions I have. it is so interesting.

Anyway thanks guys. I love you, have a fantastic week.

PS Tell Andy and Jessie happy birthday.

June 6th Letter

Dear mom and dad,

Sorry but I have to start with this today - Movies, Shawshank Redemption and Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country. And in that particular Star Trek Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy are escaping from a prison, so the theme this week has got to be prison break, unless I am overthinking it again, but I think that has got to be right. Man those themes are hard. Uh,am I good or am I good?

Well you guys. It sounds like everything is going really well at home, and everyone had a good and relaxing holiday. I didn't even know that this week had a holiday, I feel so left out. You guys also saw more baptisms than i did this week. ouch!!! Just kidding I can't believe Katie is already 8. How old is Chris? It seems like yesterday when he was baptized.

This week at church went a little bit better then last week, we actually had members begging our investigators to stay for all three hours. I am not sure what has made them change their hearts but thank heavens they did it. Pres. Smith has told us just to make sure that every chance we get to teach members the doctrines of Christ. I think that is a good way to do it. I remember a quote by Boyd K. Packer that is in preach my gospel that says "The study of doctrine will change behavior faster than the study of behavior will change behavior." I agree and I think it is the best way to get people to change for the better. So we will try to introduce gospel doctrine all the time.

Other than that this week has been a pretty solid one. We have just been teaching a lot. It seems like we haven't even had anytime to invite, but somehow we have found a lot of new investigatorsa and that is very nice. You always need new investigators whether or not you already have a lot. This week I went and did a switch off with Elder Shipley so that meant Elder Osborne was with a an elder from Thailand. who doesn't speak english. It was so good for him. He took care of the area by himself and he was taking that other elder all around. It was a good learing experience for him. He is doing really well. I feel like he is progressing faster then I did, I guess that is the plan, right?

Well I'm not sure what else to write about. As soon as I send this email I am going to send mail, so I will put that memory card in there. I feel like you guys will be able to wait 2 weeks for pictures, okay?

I also have some doctrinal questions, maybe you can help me find the answers. I have been trying to figure out the 12 tribes of Israel. I guess I just don't understand the significance of it all. They are talked about all over the Book of Mormon, but I have never really asked myself why. I know that Ephraim has the special calling of the restoration, and Judah of course with Christ and being the chosen and all that good stuff, but I don't understand what all the others are about. Could you help find me some answers, or tell me what you guys know. I plan on studying it more but i figure I could use all the help I can get.

Anyway I love you guys. Have a great week.

P.S. I don't know who those two people are on facebook, so probably not accepting them is better.
